Bhuvneshwar Kumar Prioritizes Team Success Over Personal Achievements

Ahmedabad, May 1: Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the fast bowler for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL 2026, has expressed that contributing to his team’s success holds more significance than pursuing personal accolades at this stage of his career.

After a stellar performance against Gujarat Titans, where he claimed three wickets for just 28 runs in four overs, Bhuvneshwar spoke to the media. He stated, “It’s great to have received the Purple Cap. However, I feel I have moved past the phase where I seek personal achievements. I still want to accomplish things, but now it’s more about the team. I am no longer young. When you are young, you naturally aim for those awards, which come when you perform well.”

He added, “It feels good when you work for the team’s success and also receive personal rewards. But honestly, I am just trying to give my best. I am getting confidence from the team management, and that is what matters most.”

At 36 years old, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, known as the “Swing King,” is currently the Purple Cap holder with 17 wickets in nine matches.

The match against Gujarat Titans marked his 325th T20 match. During this game, he also achieved the milestone of 350 T20 wickets, becoming the first Indian fast bowler and the second overall Indian bowler to reach this landmark. Bhuvneshwar has taken a total of 352 wickets in T20s, including five instances of four wickets and five instances of five wickets in a match.

Bhuvneshwar last played for the Indian team on November 22, 2022. He remains active in domestic cricket and the IPL, consistently performing well. Following his performance in IPL 2026, calls for his return to the Indian team have resurfaced.
