Kolkata, May 12: After assuming his ministerial responsibilities in the West Bengal government, Dilip Ghosh arrived at his office in Mrittika Bhavan. He held his first meeting with officials to review departmental activities. Following the meeting, he shared his priorities and plans with the media.
Ghosh revealed that he has been assigned three crucial departments: Panchayat, Rural Development, and Agriculture. He emphasized that the Panchayat and Rural Development Department is the largest in the state and plays a vital role in the overall development of villages. Various welfare schemes initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, including the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, fall under this department, increasing its responsibilities significantly.
He mentioned that after taking charge, he engaged in detailed discussions with officials about the current status of projects, challenges, and future strategies. “We will hold another meeting with officials to clarify the pace and direction of our work,” he stated. Ghosh also noted that he has spoken with Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan regarding fund allocation, and he expects the necessary financial resources to be made available soon.
Addressing the staffing shortage in the department, Ghosh described it as a major challenge, stating that approximately 6,500 new recruits are essential. “Effective implementation of schemes is not possible without adequate manpower,” he asserted. He further explained that simply having funds is insufficient; both manpower and financial resources are crucial for success.
In the coming days, Ghosh plans to visit districts to assess the ground-level work. “We will evaluate where progress has been made, where there are gaps, and where discrepancies have occurred. Based on this, we will formulate our future action plan,” he concluded.
