Dhoni Receives Notice from Jharkhand Housing Board Over Land Use

Ranchi, February 28: Former captain of the Indian cricket team, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, has received a notice from the Jharkhand State Housing Board regarding the alleged commercial use of a residential plot located in Ranchi.

The board has requested a written explanation from him within 15 days. According to board officials, the plot designated as HIG-10/A in the Harmu Housing Colony was allocated solely for residential purposes. Recent information suggests that a pathology lab is being operated from the premises. If this claim is validated, it would be considered a violation of the allocation terms.

Under the housing board’s regulations, plots, houses, or quarters allocated in the residential category are strictly prohibited from being used for any commercial activities. However, the board clarified that the purpose of the notice is to confirm the facts and ascertain compliance with the allocation conditions.

It is noteworthy that Dhoni was gifted this plot in 2006 under a special decision by the state government. The then Chief Minister, Arjun Munda, made this decision in recognition of his remarkable performance in international cricket. The order issued on February 23, 2006, allocated a plot of approximately 5,002 square feet.

Later, Dhoni purchased additional land nearby, constructing a residence on a total area of about 10 decimals. Housing board officials stated that complaints regarding the commercial use of residential properties are currently under review, and notices are being issued wherever violations are suspected.

This action has been taken as part of that process. Currently, Dhoni does not reside in the Harmu property. He has built a farmhouse in the Ring Road area of Ranchi, where he stays during his visits to the city.
