Dhanbad Police Organizes Unique Parade for 700 Individuals with Criminal Records

Dhanbad, July 2: In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at reducing crime and reintegrating individuals with criminal records into society, the Dhanbad Police held a unique parade on Thursday. For the first time, approximately 700 individuals with criminal backgrounds from various police station areas were gathered at the police lines to take an oath to abide by the law and refrain from criminal activities.

The police claim this district-level parade is a first for Jharkhand. During the event, the identities of all participants were verified, photographs were taken, and their records were matched. Senior Superintendent of Police Prabhat Kumar, City SP Ritvik Srivastava, and Rural SP S. Mohammad Yaqub addressed the attendees. SSP Prabhat Kumar emphasized that the goal of this initiative is not to humiliate anyone but to provide an opportunity for reform.

He stated that individuals with criminal records are being given a chance to return to the mainstream of society. “If you choose to leave crime behind and live a normal life, the police will fully support you. However, strict action will be taken if you re-offend,” he warned. The police have records of over 3,000 individuals in the district, with 700 called for this event, while others will be invited in phases.

Kumar mentioned that those who have not been involved in criminal activities for a long time can apply to their respective station heads for verification of their conduct. After an investigation, consideration will be given to removing their names from the list according to regulations. The SSP clarified that the police will continuously monitor the activities of all identified individuals.

He issued a warning that harsh legal action will be taken against anyone who re-engages in criminal behavior. Additionally, he noted that having a criminal record can impact processes such as obtaining character certificates, passports, and government jobs. Police officials urged attendees to report any criminal activities occurring in their areas. The Dhanbad Police have described this campaign as a significant step towards crime control and corrective policing.
