DGCA Official and Associate Sent to Judicial Custody in Bribery Case

New Delhi, April 24: The Rouse Avenue Court in New Delhi has sent DGCA official Mudavat Devula and another accused to judicial custody until May 6 in a bribery case. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested both individuals on April 18 while they were allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹2.5 lakh. The authorities recovered the cash on-site.

After their CBI custody ended, Mudavat Devula and Bharat Mathur, an official from a private company, were presented in court. During the hearing, the court ordered their judicial custody until May 6. Previously, the court had extended their CBI custody by two days.

Mudavat Devula and Bharat Mathur are accused of accepting a bribe of ₹2.5 lakh in exchange for facilitating drone import permissions. Following raids at their homes and offices, the CBI seized ₹37 lakh in cash, gold and silver coins, and several digital devices.

Mudavat Devula served as the Deputy Director General in the DGCA’s Airworthiness Directorate. His role involved determining whether an aircraft or drone is safe for flight. Bharat Mathur is a Senior Vice President at a major corporate group and is linked to an aerospace company involved in drone imports.

According to the CBI, Mudavat Devula exploited his government position to solicit money from private companies. Several applications related to drone imports from a private aerospace company had been pending at the DGCA for an extended period. Bribes were allegedly solicited in exchange for approvals and permits. Bharat Mathur acted as an intermediary for this bribery deal between the DGCA official and the private company. The agency arrested both individuals on April 18 while they were in the act.
