Devotees Flock to Haridwars Daksheshwar Mahadev Temple on Nag Panchami

Haridwar, August 17: On the auspicious occasion of the third Monday of Sawan and Nag Panchami, a large crowd of devotees gathered at the ancient Daksheshwar Mahadev Temple in Kanakhal, Haridwar. The temple resonated with chants of “Har Har Mahadev” and “Bol Bam.”

Pandit Nitin Bijalwan, a priest at the Daksheshwar Mahadev Temple, shared, “Every day, every night, every moment belongs to Mahadev, but the month of Sawan is particularly dear to him. This is why we celebrate Sawan with such enthusiasm.”

He referenced a mythological tale, explaining that the Daksheshwar Mahadev Temple is considered the in-laws’ house of Mahadev. It is believed that Mahadev resides here during the month of Sawan, which is why Haridwar experiences a special vibrancy during this time.

Discussing the rituals, Pandit Nitin Bijalwan said, “There are many ways to worship, but God is hungry for devotion. Don’t get caught up in complexities. Offer a pot of water with pure intent and become a partaker of merit.”

Regarding Nag Panchami, he emphasized its significance, stating, “Nag Panchami holds great importance. On this day, a pair of snakes is offered to Mahadev. Worship is performed on the Shivling with milk, rice, and fruits. Nag Panchami also teaches us compassion for all living beings and the importance of their protection.”

He urged devotees to engage in worship with sincerity and to help maintain the temple’s order. “Do not disrupt the arrangements. Pay special attention to cleanliness. Our nation’s commitment is to a clean India, and we should start with ourselves. Whether it is the month of Sawan or any other day, we must prioritize cleanliness and continue our daily rituals with devotion.”
