Prashant Kishor Takes Oath as MLA, Expresses Pride in Joining Bihar Assembly

Patna, August 17: After winning the by-election in the Bankipur constituency, Prashant Kishor, founder of the Jan Suraj Party, took the oath of office as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) on Monday. The ceremony took place in the office of the Assembly Speaker, Prem Kumar, located in the main building of the Bihar Assembly.

Speaker Prem Kumar administered the oath. The event was attended by several leaders, including Manoj Bharti, the state president of Jan Suraj, and spokesperson Kumar Saurabh Singh.

Following the oath-taking, Kishor addressed the media, stating, “Becoming a member of the Bihar Assembly is a matter of great pride for me, where esteemed individuals like Bharat Ratna Karpoori Thakur, Nitish Kumar, and Lalu Yadav have served. Inspired by them, I aim to contribute to the betterment of society and the state.”

Regarding the recent stampede at the Ashok Dham temple in Lakhisarai, he commented, “We have just received the information. We will go there.”

Kishor made history by defeating BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha, becoming the first elected MLA from the Jan Suraj Party. This victory marks Kishor’s first electoral win after entering politics and is a significant achievement for the relatively new party.

Voting for the Bankipur seat took place on July 30, with the counting of votes occurring on August 3. Kishor maintained his lead during the counting process and ultimately won by a margin of 19,324 votes. He received 64,151 votes, while BJP’s Neeraj Kumar Sinha garnered 44,827 votes. RJD candidate Rekha Gupta finished third with 14,273 votes.

This result ended the BJP’s long-standing dominance in the constituency, which it had controlled since 1995. The victory is particularly noteworthy as Bankipur has traditionally been considered a BJP stronghold.

With this ceremony, Kishor officially begins his tenure as an MLA and will be the first elected representative from the Jan Suraj Party. His win has granted the newly formed party its first presence in the state assembly, transforming the Bankipur by-election into a significant political event in Bihar.
