Discover the Sacred Bhimeshwar Mahadev Temple Amidst Natures Splendor

Nainital, August 17: Nestled between lush green mountains and a serene lake, the Bhimeshwar Mahadev Temple in Nainital is a revered site of faith. This temple is considered one of the prominent religious places in the Kumaon region, holding significant mythological and historical importance.

On Monday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami took to social media to highlight the temple’s legendary beliefs. He shared a grand video of the temple, stating, “The Bhimeshwar Mahadev Temple, located in Bhuwali of Nainital district, is a center of faith for many devotees. It is believed that the Pandavas established a divine Shiva Lingam here during their exile. Special prayers and rituals are conducted during festivals like Maha Shivratri.”

If you are visiting Nainital during the month of Shravan, be sure to seek blessings at Bhimeshwar Mahadev.

Dedicated to Lord Bholenath, this temple is said to fulfill wishes made with a sincere heart. The temple attracts large crowds during Maha Shivratri and the month of Sawan, where devotees come to perform water offerings to Baba.

According to locals, the temple is named after Bhima from the Mahabharata. The Skanda Purana narrates that Bhima once embarked on a journey to the Himalayas alone. During his travels, a divine voice echoed from the sky, saying, “If you wish to be remembered forever, build a temple for Lord Shiva with devotion.”

Being a true devotee of Shiva, Bhima constructed the temple at that very spot. He was immensely powerful, possessing the strength of a hundred elephants. With his mace, he broke the mountain, causing the Ganges to flow forth, which eventually formed the Bhimtal Lake. Following this, Bhima established the Shiva Lingam there.

Historical records indicate that in the 17th century, the Chand ruler Baz Bahadur Chand renovated or constructed this temple. Its magnificent structure and natural beauty continue to attract tourists and devotees alike.
