
New Delhi, August 17: Indian Army Chief General Dheeraj Seth is on an official visit to Nepal from August 17 to August 19. He arrived in the capital, Kathmandu, on Sunday. On Monday morning, General Seth inspected a guard of honor at the Nepal Army Headquarters, attended by senior officials of the Nepalese army.
Earlier, General Seth paid tribute to fallen soldiers at the martyr’s memorial located at Soldier Platform, laying a wreath in honor of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. He expressed respect for the valor of these brave soldiers and honored their sacrifices.
This visit is seen as a significant step towards further strengthening the long-standing military relations between India and Nepal. During his stay, General Seth will discuss bilateral defense cooperation, mutual interests, and ways to enhance collaboration between the two armies with Nepal’s top military leadership. A special event will be held at the President’s Office on Monday in honor of General Seth, where he will be awarded the honorary title of Chief of the Nepal Army.
It is noteworthy that there has been a tradition of bestowing honorary titles between the army chiefs of India and Nepal, symbolizing the special relationship and historical military cooperation between the two nations. The focus during General Seth’s visit is expected to be on strengthening defense and security cooperation. Ongoing collaboration includes joint military exercises, training, capacity building, humanitarian assistance, disaster relief, and regular military-level dialogue.
Nepal is a crucial neighbor and strategic partner for India. The geographical proximity and deep social and cultural ties between the two countries make General Seth’s visit vital for enhancing mutual trust, understanding, and cooperation between the armies. General Seth is accompanied by a five-member Indian delegation and is visiting at the invitation of Nepal Army Chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel. Also joining him is Komal Seth, the president of the Army Wives Welfare Association.
