Demands for Fair Investigation in the Sanchita Ugle Case Grow Amid Industry Pressure

Mumbai, June 15: The tragic death of television actress Sanchita Ugle has sparked significant concern among various artist associations and industry members. The All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has responded strongly, urging the Maharashtra government to conduct a high-level investigation into the matter. Actress Aanchal Khurana has also shared a video on social media, addressing the pressures and mental stress faced in the industry.

AICWA President Suresh Shyamlal Gupta has written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, demanding a thorough investigation into Sanchita Ugle‘s untimely death.

In an official statement, AICWA expressed, “Sanchita Ugle’s premature demise has shattered her family, and the entire industry is in mourning. Every life is precious, and it is crucial to uncover the truth in this case. The investigation must be completely fair and transparent to ensure justice for her family.”

Additionally, AICWA has made another significant request to the government. They stated, “Given the increasing incidents of suicides and mental health issues in the entertainment industry, a committee should be formed. This committee should investigate the mental pressures faced by artists and whether adequate support systems are in place. Often, the safety, mental state, and working environment of artists are overlooked, which is a serious concern.”

AICWA further emphasized, “In recent years, several cases in the industry have raised questions about the reasons behind deaths and suicides. Families, colleagues, and the public often seek answers, but clarity is often lacking. Therefore, we appeal for a serious examination of every piece of evidence, circumstance, and angle in this case to ensure no truth remains hidden.”

Meanwhile, actress Aanchal Khurana has also reacted to the issue. She shared a video on Instagram, openly discussing the mental pressures faced by artists in the television and film industry. She noted that while the industry may appear glamorous from the outside, it can be equally challenging and stressful internally.

In her video, Aanchal Khurana linked Sanchita Ugle’s death to the pressures of working in the creative industry. She stated, “Artists constantly face rejection, comparison, and competition. Sometimes, they are replaced for minor reasons, which can severely impact their self-esteem. Channels and producers often focus solely on TRP and budget, paying little attention to the mental well-being of artists.”

Sharing her experiences, she added, “Auditions and continuous rejections can weaken artists from within. They must prove themselves daily, and at times, this pressure becomes overwhelming, leading to increased mental stress. Many artists endure this stress alone and find it hard to speak out.”

In her video, she urged, “If someone is experiencing mental stress, they should stay close to family and loved ones and avoid isolation. People often advise staying strong, but no one mentions how often one must be strong and for how long.”
