Mumbai, July 22: Renowned actors Nasiruddin Shah and Preity Zinta have voiced their opinions regarding the recent student protests at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. The protests were aimed at demanding reforms in the education system and the resignation of relevant ministers. Tensions escalated between police and demonstrators during the event.
Nasiruddin Shah expressed his discontent over the treatment of students in a video shared on his official Instagram account. He criticized the political leadership and highlighted the plight of the protesting students.
In the video, Shah stated, “I am Nasiruddin Shah, and I want to say two things to all of you. First, if an unknown person leads this country, he would wish for the entire nation to be as ignorant, foolish, and ruthless as he is. Although I have completed two different acting courses from the National University of India and FTII, I have learned the most about acting from the students I have tried to learn from. My full sympathy lies with them.”
He continued, “My prayers will always be with these children, and I salute them every Teachers’ Day. Today, my heart is filled with sadness and anger. It pains me to see such mistreatment of these children. Those who are doing this remind me of ICE agents in America, who act harshly while masked and armed. I want to tell them to think about their own children. Remember, times do not remain the same, and one day, a similar situation may arise for you. To all these children, I say, do not lose hope. Many people stand with you and support you. Keep fighting. I have always trusted the youth of our country, and this trust is now stronger than ever. Stand firm; we are all with you. Lastly, I want to tell the government of this country to remember what is happening today.”
Meanwhile, actress Preity Zinta took to social media platform X to express her views. She emphasized that supporting students and demanding reforms in the education system is crucial for a better future for the youth. However, she stressed that protests must remain entirely peaceful.
Zinta remarked, “Watching the viral videos on social media, it seems that some mischievous and anti-national elements, whether within the country or outside, are trying to exploit the anger and frustration of students.”
She affirmed her belief in hard work, equality, and excellence, as well as in democracy, law, and order. Zinta expressed hope that both sides would reach a resolution through dialogue, eliminating any malicious intent or disruptive elements from the movement, thereby strengthening both the future of the youth and democracy.
