New Delhi, June 6: Former MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has written to Union Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, urging the establishment of a Railway Coach Factory in Murshidabad district, West Bengal, in collaboration with Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL).
In his letter, Chowdhury mentioned that he has learned about the Railway Ministry’s plans to implement several development projects, including railway infrastructure in the state. He also referenced his letter to the Prime Minister dated May 12, 2026, where he advocated for advancing the proposal for the Railway Coach Factory in Murshidabad.
Chowdhury noted that this project was proposed during his tenure as Minister of State for Railways. Approval of this initiative could create significant employment opportunities for thousands of unemployed youth in Murshidabad and surrounding districts.
He emphasized that the factory would not only provide direct and indirect employment but also foster industrial development, economic progress, and new socio-economic changes in the region. Despite its historical significance, border location, and large population, Murshidabad continues to face challenges in industrialization and job creation.
Chowdhury stated that establishing the Railway Coach Factory would promote ancillary industries, enhance local youth skills, and strengthen the regional economy.
He urged the Rail Minister to prioritize this project in coordination with the West Bengal government and to announce it soon. The Congress leader expressed confidence that the project’s announcement would mark a historic milestone for the people of Murshidabad and provide new direction for the region’s development.
