Bihar Police Enhances Crime Control Measures in Statewide Review Meeting

Patna, October 1 (Daily Kiran) : In a bid to strengthen law enforcement and crime control, the Bihar government has issued directives for heightened vigilance in sensitive and critical areas across all districts. The focus is on improving patrolling, taking effective action against narcotics and cyber crimes, and optimizing the use of available police resources.

A review meeting was convened at the Sardar Patel Bhawan police headquarters in Patna, co-chaired by Principal Secretary of the Home Department Pankaj Kumar and Director General of Police Preeta Verma. Key officials, including all district nodal ADGs, IGs, and DIGs, participated in the discussions.

During the meeting, 36 senior police officers who had toured the state’s 40 police districts presented their observations. They identified crime-prone areas, referred to as ‘crime spots,’ and discussed strategies for enhancing crime prevention and policing effectiveness in these locations. The meeting also addressed various issues related to law enforcement, patrolling, and the prevention of narcotics and cyber crimes.

Pankaj Kumar emphasized the importance of accountability, instructing sub-divisional police officers (SDPOs), block police inspectors, and station house officers (SHOs) to avoid any negligence in their duties. He warned that disciplinary action would be taken against any officers found lacking in their responsibilities.

Senior officials assigned to specific districts were instructed to ensure overnight stays in their areas to regularly review policing and law enforcement. To improve coordination in crime control, all police vehicles, both two-wheeled and four-wheeled, will be linked to the Dial-112 emergency service, enhancing the effectiveness of emergency response systems.

The meeting also called for strengthening patrolling efforts and maintaining up-to-date records related to patrol activities. The use of technology, including CCTNS, CCTV, police control rooms, district control rooms, and wireless systems, was emphasized to ensure they remain active and effective.

In districts bordering the India-Nepal border, officials were directed to gather detailed information on activities related to organized narcotics cartels, fostering better coordination among local units. The compliance with court-issued seizure orders was also reviewed, with officials instructed to process these orders promptly and without unnecessary delays.

DGP Preeta Verma highlighted the need for maximizing the effective use of available resources. She urged officials to work in a responsible and coordinated manner to continuously improve crime control, law enforcement, and the overall quality of policing.

Special attention was given to enhancing security at tourist spots and selfie points, with directives for adequate police presence and regular patrolling. The concept of ‘super patrolling’ was suggested to ensure effective monitoring of police deployment and patrols in these areas.

The meeting also acknowledged the Kishanganj police’s ‘Good Morning Walk’ initiative, where senior officers engage with the public to gather insights on local issues. This initiative was viewed as a positive step in strengthening the dialogue between the community and the police, encouraging other districts to adopt similar approaches.

Furthermore, DGP Verma instructed all nodal officers to hold meetings at police stations to foster better communication between the police and the public.
