Bhopal, August 1: Jitu Patwari, the president of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee, has raised concerns regarding the quality of water supply in the capital, Bhopal. He has called for a high-level investigation into the matter. Patwari accused the state government of failing to provide clean drinking water to the residents of Bhopal.
He highlighted alarming findings, stating that water samples from the Upper Lake and Kolar water supply tested positive for fecal coliform bacteria. This situation poses a serious threat to the health of millions in the state. According to Patwari, nearly 90% of water samples supplied from the Upper Lake contained sewage-related fecal coliform bacteria, while 25% of samples from the Kolar supply did not meet the required standards. This indicates that the water supply system in the capital is being neglected, and the government is failing in its most basic responsibility.
Patwari criticized Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s administration for claiming good governance in advertisements while the reality is that citizens are forced to drink contaminated water. He warned that if this serious negligence is not addressed promptly, a significant crisis of waterborne diseases could arise.
The state Congress president has demanded a thorough and impartial investigation into the entire issue. He called for immediate FIRs against all responsible officials who have been negligent in monitoring water quality, as well as strict action against the guilty parties. Additionally, he urged the government to provide alternative arrangements for clean drinking water, health camps, and necessary medical facilities in affected areas to prevent any public health disaster.
