Ayodhya, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s recent remarks about vegetarian food served at the BRICS summit gala dinner have sparked reactions from saints in Ayodhya. Gandhi stated that “80 percent of Indians are non-vegetarian,” prompting objections from Mahant Sitaram Das and Mahamandaleshwar Vishnu Das Maharaj.
Mahant Sitaram Das condemned Gandhi’s statement, questioning whether the politician himself is vegetarian or non-vegetarian. He accused Gandhi of misrepresenting the Indian populace and claimed his comments do not align with the country’s cultural sentiments. “Gandhi has failed to understand Indian traditions and culture, and his remarks disrespect the people of India,” he said.
Mahamandaleshwar Vishnu Das Maharaj also opposed Gandhi’s assertion, labeling it factually incorrect to claim that 80 percent of the country’s population consumes meat. He emphasized that food preferences vary among different communities and should be regarded as personal choices. Vishnu Das suggested that Gandhi should apologize to the nation for his comments.
In addition, both saints shared their views on the recent actions taken against madrasas in West Bengal. Mahant Sitaram Das advocated for modern education to help children become doctors, engineers, and excel in various fields. He criticized certain madrasas for allegedly promoting hate-filled education, which he deemed unacceptable.
Supporting the actions against madrasas, Vishnu Das Maharaj stated that measures were taken against institutions lacking adequate facilities and facing scrutiny over their activities. He expressed concerns about the education being provided in some madrasas and called for a comprehensive review of the situation.
Both saints emphasized that the purpose of education should be to foster harmony, development, and nation-building, while rejecting any form of extremism or animosity.
