New Delhi, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : Former Indian Ambassador J.K. Tripathi has hailed the unanimous condemnation of the Pahalgam terrorist attack by BRICS nations as a major diplomatic achievement. He expressed support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement advocating for the Global South to become a “rule shaper,” emphasizing that the voices of approximately 190 to 195 countries should be heard.
Tripathi noted that the consensus on the Pahalgam attack represents a culmination of efforts over the past year. He recalled the controversy during last year’s SCO summit in Tianjin, China, where discussions on terrorism and terror funding were omitted, leading India to refrain from signing the declaration. This year, however, the SCO summit in Bishkek and subsequent discussions have allowed for comprehensive dialogue on terrorism.
He pointed out that the recent BRICS summit addressed terrorism, terror funding, and various forms of terrorism in detail, with explicit references to attacks in Jammu and Kashmir and across India.
In supporting Modi’s vision for the Global South, Tripathi stressed that these countries should have a say in shaping global rules rather than allowing this privilege to rest solely with the G7 nations.
Regarding the unanimous signing of the New Delhi declaration by BRICS countries, he remarked on the significant participation from nations with differing national interests, including India and China, as well as Saudi Arabia and Iran. Despite these differences, the summit produced a declaration and achieved consensus on several pressing issues affecting multiple countries, marking a significant accomplishment. The next challenge will be to see how these agreements are implemented and translated into concrete actions.
