Demand for Bharat Ratna for Veer Savarkar Intensifies on His 143rd Birth Anniversary

Mumbai, May 28: The demand for conferring the prestigious Bharat Ratna award to Veer Savarkar has gained momentum once again on the occasion of his 143rd birth anniversary. Leaders from the BJP and Shiv Sena assert that Savarkar played a crucial role in India’s independence and deserves this honor.

Maharashtra Minister Girish Mahajan emphasized in a conversation that Savarkar’s contributions to the freedom struggle are significant and cannot be overlooked. He stated, “Veer Savarkar should be awarded the Bharat Ratna. His contributions to India’s independence are immense. We have also made this demand. We passed a unanimous resolution in the Assembly and sent it to the central government. We will certainly follow through on this.”

Similarly, Shiv Sena leader Manisha Kayande reiterated the call for Savarkar to receive the Bharat Ratna. In her remarks, she noted that her party has long advocated for this recognition, asserting that the time has come for the central government to make a concrete decision and announce it promptly. She added that this sentiment is shared by many, reflecting the need for Savarkar’s contributions to be honored at a national level.

In a related event in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, Acharya Pramod Krishnam also paid tribute to Savarkar. Speaking at a seminar commemorating both Mahant Avadyanath and Savarkar, he highlighted Savarkar’s struggles for India’s freedom and the challenges he faced.

Krishnam remarked, “Even after India’s independence, Veer Savarkar did not receive the justice he deserved. This decade under Narendra Modi’s leadership is the first where a decision has been made to honor Savarkar as a great freedom fighter.”
