New Delhi, September 23 (Daily Kiran) : Students from Lady Shri Ram College in New Delhi organized a march on September 23, 2026, to advocate for women’s safety and to protest against incidents of harassment and assault. The event saw participation from students across Delhi University and other colleges. They called on the Delhi police and government to ensure accountability and take strict action against such crimes.
Annapurna, one of the participants, described the event as a “solidarity march.” She emphasized that the march was in support of a victim of a serious incident, but it also represented solidarity for all girls who have faced similar situations. The primary demand from the students is for enhanced safety measures for women.
Another student expressed feelings of fear and disappointment toward Delhi’s institutions. She pointed out that it is the police’s responsibility to keep people safe and ensure that criminals are apprehended. She stressed that female students should not have to confront safety issues on the streets or outside their colleges. Additionally, she raised concerns about the education system, advocating for teaching boys and young men to respect women and understand that committing crimes against them is unacceptable.
The student questioned whether advising girls to stay home or avoid college for their safety truly addresses the problem. If society continues down this path, she warned, it could lead to restricting girls to their homes, as institutions would fail to protect them from offenders. She urged all relevant authorities to take responsibility, specifically calling on the Delhi police and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
She also sought answers from Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, questioning why women do not feel safe in the city and what steps the government is taking to improve the situation.
