New Delhi, February 24: The investigation into the shirtless protest that occurred during the India AI Impact Summit in the national capital has gained momentum. On Tuesday, the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police detained Uday Bhanu Chib, the National President of the Indian Youth Congress, along with seven other suspects.

Following their arrest, Chib was presented in court, where the Patiala House Court ordered him to be remanded in police custody for four days. The investigating agency requested a seven-day custody, claiming that Chib is the “main conspirator and mastermind” behind the incident.

The defense opposed the extended police custody, while the prosecution argued that custodial interrogation was essential to uncover a broader conspiracy. After hearing both sides, the court approved the four-day police custody.

According to investigation agencies, during the AI Summit held on February 20 at Bharat Mandapam, there were attempts to illegally gather crowds, allegedly shout anti-national slogans, and create a riot-like situation. Police alleged that Chib, along with Krishna Hari, Kundan Yadav, Narasimha Yadav, and Ajay Kumar Yadav, attempted to obstruct on-duty police officers and engage in physical altercations.

The arrest memo also noted that during questioning, Chib did not cooperate and failed to provide information about the absconding suspects and the source of the T-shirts used in the protest. Reports indicate that Chib was arrested after approximately 15 hours of interrogation at the Tilak Marg police station.

This incident has sparked political controversy. The BJP claimed that the protest aimed to damage India’s global image, while Congress described it as a peaceful demonstration expressing the concerns of the youth. Some allied parties of the opposition coalition have also criticized Congress’s youth wing regarding the protest.
