Kolkata, March 15: Abhishek Banerjee, the National General Secretary of the Trinamool Congress, has strongly condemned the attack on the residence of West Bengal Cabinet Minister Shashi Panja. He criticized the BJP on the social media platform X, labeling the incident as an assault on democracy and women’s safety.
In his post, Banerjee expressed his outrage over the cowardly and reprehensible attack on Minister Shashi Panja. He alleged that the assailants vandalized her home, caused significant damage, and brutally assaulted party workers and supporters. During the attack, Minister Panja herself was targeted, with stones and bricks thrown at her, resulting in injuries. Banerjee claimed that this attack occurred while the Prime Minister was present in the city, emboldening BJP supporters to engage in open violence.
The TMC leader further stated that an attack on a working cabinet minister in broad daylight is not just an assault on an individual but an attack on the dignity and safety of every woman in Bengal. He referenced a similar incident from 2019, where the statue of social reformer Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar was vandalized during a BJP rally, suggesting that this reflects the political culture of the BJP.
Accusing the BJP of inciting violence in Bengal through external forces, Banerjee remarked that the ‘Bohiragoto BJP Zamindar’ aims to import provocative politics into the state. Their objective, he asserted, is to disrupt peace and create an atmosphere of fear.
He warned that such incidents will neither be forgiven nor forgotten in Bengal. Banerjee emphasized that the people of Bengal will not tolerate the saffron party’s thuggery under any circumstances.
