New Delhi, August 14: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced that metro services will commence at 4 AM on Independence Day to facilitate the movement of special guests and the general public attending the celebrations at the Red Fort.
In an official statement, DMRC confirmed that on Saturday, August 15, 2026, metro services will begin at 4 AM from all terminal stations in its network. This initiative aims to ease travel for invited guests and the public attending the Independence Day ceremony.
According to the scheduled timetable for that day, metro services will operate at 30-minute intervals across all lines until regular services begin.
Additionally, to ensure smooth travel for special guests and invitees, the corporation has provided the Ministry of Defence with 130,000 specially issued QR tickets. The statement also mentioned that invited individuals holding valid physical admit cards will receive specially issued QR tickets at designated metro stations to facilitate their journey.
The Red Fort, Jama Masjid, and Delhi Gate metro stations are the closest to the Red Fort, where the Independence Day celebrations will take place. The travel expenses incurred using these special QR tickets will be reimbursed to DMRC by the Ministry of Defence.
A day prior, DMRC issued an advisory urging residents of Delhi-NCR not to fly kites near elevated metro lines. It warned that kite strings could get entangled in high-voltage overhead equipment (OHE), potentially disrupting train services and posing serious safety risks.
The corporation reiterated the importance of public cooperation to ensure the safety of metro passengers, staff, and the general public, as well as to maintain uninterrupted train services during Independence Day.
Meanwhile, a full dress rehearsal took place at the historic Red Fort on Thursday, ahead of the 80th Independence Day celebrations, under tight security and traffic arrangements.
On August 15, a large crowd is expected to gather at the iconic Red Fort for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address, with significant travel restrictions anticipated across the capital.
