New Delhi, August 13: There has been significant discussion regarding Bangladesh Prime Minister Tariq Rahman’s anticipated visit to India since he took office. However, Bangladesh’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shahriar Alam, stated on Thursday that no date has been set for this visit.
In response to media inquiries at the Foreign Ministry, the minister noted, “The date for the Prime Minister’s visit to Japan has not been finalized yet. It will be determined at an appropriate time for both countries. As you know, the Prime Minister is currently occupied with several domestic matters, and nothing regarding visits to India or any other country has been finalized. These matters will certainly be resolved through discussions with the respective countries.”
When asked if Rahman’s visit could ease tensions between the two nations, the minister replied that whenever leaders from both countries engage in dialogue or bilateral discussions, it presents an opportunity to resolve various issues.
On Monday, India’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Dinesh Trivedi, met with PM Tariq Rahman. The High Commissioner emphasized that both nations not only share a border but also common aspirations.
Trivedi also held a separate meeting with Bangladesh’s Home Minister, Asaduzzaman Khan, focusing on enhancing bilateral partnerships across various sectors.
Following the meeting with Rahman, the Indian High Commission stated on X that the Indian envoy conveyed India’s intent to collaborate positively, constructively, and forward-thinking with the Bangladeshi government and its people.
Bangladeshi media outlet UNB quoted Trivedi as saying, “We look forward to the future. Our invitation stands. We are confident that if both leaders meet, there will be discussions. There will be challenges in democracy. If there are no challenges, it is not democracy. However, the only issue for the people is good relations. If good relations exist, it is a win-win situation.”
