New Delhi: The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi has issued a notice to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, seeking his response in connection with an alleged hate speech delivered during a Karnataka election rally in 2023.
Earlier, in November 2024, the Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court had dismissed a petition and declined to take cognisance of the complaint against Kharge. The petitioner, Ravindra Gupta, challenged this order in the Sessions Court at Rouse Avenue.
The allegation states that Kharge made inflammatory remarks against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the 2023 Karnataka election campaign. The hearing in the Rouse Avenue Court is scheduled for February 27.
Previously, on November 16, 2024, the Tis Hazari Court had rejected the complaint filed by an RSS member, which accused Kharge of delivering provocative speech at a rally in Naregal, Karnataka, in April 2023. The complaint also mentioned that Kharge made disparaging comments about the Prime Minister.
This issue had resurfaced in December 2024 when the court declined to direct the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against Kharge. The complainant, Ravindra Gupta, alleged that Kharge’s speech at the Karnataka rally was intended to incite hatred against the RSS and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The case continues to draw attention as the legal process unfolds, reflecting ongoing scrutiny of political rhetoric during election campaigns.
