Haridwar, April 6: A troubling case of harassment and triple talaq has emerged from the Bandra Jud area of Haridwar, prompting police to register a complaint and initiate an investigation.
According to reports, Shahin was married to Mohammad Danish in a Muslim ceremony about two and a half years ago. Allegations state that the woman faced continuous harassment from her in-laws and husband since the marriage. The situation escalated when her husband allegedly pronounced triple talaq, effectively separating her from the household.
The victim’s family is demanding strict action in this case. They argue that robust measures, including the implementation of a Uniform Civil Code (UCC), should be taken against the accused to prevent such incidents. They also praised the laws introduced by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami aimed at protecting women’s rights.
The police are treating the matter with seriousness and are currently proceeding with actions under the relevant legal provisions.
In a conversation with reporters, the victim’s brother, Salman, shared, “My sister got married two and a half years ago. There were frequent arguments. Many villagers intervened to mediate. However, the boy’s mother and sister continued to harass my sister. She did not disclose many incidents to us, but now the boy has given her ‘talaq’.”
Salman further stated, “The government has introduced the UCC law, which is beneficial for women. We want action under this law. We hope that no sister has to endure such treatment. There is nothing wrong in religion or the Quran, but some people exploit it.”
The victim, Shahin, recounted her experience, stating, “I faced mistreatment since the marriage. I endured it for a long time without informing my family, but when it became unbearable, I finally spoke up.” She accused her mother-in-law of inciting violence against her.
The police investigation is ongoing, and the family hopes for justice.
