Amit Shah Claims NDA Will Form Government in Kerala Amidst Assembly Elections

Thiruvananthapuram, April 6: Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed a large public rally in Kattakkada on Sunday, asserting that the NDA will form the government in Kerala during the upcoming assembly elections. In his speech, he targeted both the UDF and LDF, accusing them of corruption, appeasement, and neglecting development issues.

Shah claimed that the NDA’s support base in Kerala has been steadily increasing. He noted that in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the NDA received 14% of the votes, which rose to 16% in 2019, and is projected to reach 20% in 2024. He expressed confidence that this time, the NDA will secure a government in Kerala.

He pointed out that for years, the people of Kerala have alternated between the UDF and LDF, yet neither government has prioritized the state’s genuine development. Both parties have faced allegations of corruption. Shah specifically criticized the LDF government, referencing the ₹343 crore cooperative bank scam, the AI scam, and the Life Mission scam. He stated that neither the UDF nor LDF takes action against each other’s corruption because they are both complicit.

Shah accused both parties of engaging in appeasement politics. He mentioned that when the central government banned the Popular Front of India (PFI), both the LDF and UDF opposed the decision. He argued that under their governance, Kerala cannot be safe. He also referred to the Waqf Amendment Bill, stating that both parties protested against it when it was introduced by the central government. He highlighted the issue of the Waqf Board acquiring 400 acres of land from 600 families in Ernakulam, noting that both parties remained silent and continued their appeasement strategies.

The Home Minister questioned the alliance between Congress and the Communists, asserting that they are essentially the same. He cited the example of the gold theft at Sabarimala, alleging that gold was looted during the Left’s rule, with Congress involved in its sale. He declared that the time for both parties has ended, and the NDA is poised to take over.

Discussing development initiatives, Shah mentioned that Kerala has achieved 100% electrification of its railways. The first Water Metro in the country is being constructed in Kochi, along with the establishment of the first dedicated container trans-shipment port and the first digital science park in Kerala. Once thought impossible, the BJP has made significant strides in the state, with its first MLA elected in 2016, its first MP in 2024, and the first BJP mayor in Thiruvananthapuram in 2025. He concluded by stating that it is time for the NDA to have a Chief Minister in Kerala.
