New Delhi, August 29: The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi has extended the police custody of lawyer Deepak Khatri, associated with Lawrence Bishnoi, for an additional five days. The Delhi Police had requested a ten-day extension, but the court granted only five days of police remand.
Deepak Khatri’s initial three-day police custody was set to conclude on Saturday, after which he was presented in court. He is reportedly part of Lawrence Bishnoi’s legal team and was arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, in connection with a case involving the supply of illegal weapons and extortion.
DCP Sanjeev Yadav stated that the 45-year-old Deepak Khatri, also known as Mama, has been linked to the Bishnoi gang for over a decade. His involvement in a recent arms smuggling case has come to light.
An official connected to the case revealed that Deepak Khatri graduated from the Venkatweshwar Group of Institutions in Meerut two years ago. Following his studies in Meerut, he obtained membership in the Delhi Bar Council and began practicing in lower courts.
The official further noted that Khatri had previously arranged clients, participated in settlements, and acted as a liaison for lawyers in Delhi’s lower courts.
