Fatal Bus Collision in Muzaffarpur Leaves One Dead and 50 Injured

Muzaffarpur, September 2: A tragic bus collision occurred on Wednesday in Muzaffarpur district, Bihar, on the Muzaffarpur-Sitamarhi National Highway (NH-22). The accident resulted in the death of one bus driver and left approximately 50 passengers injured.

The collision took place around 3 PM near the area of the Aurai police station, close to Bedoul/Gopalpur. The impact was so severe that the driver of one bus became trapped inside the vehicle.

Emergency services arrived promptly, and with the assistance of local residents, they used a cutting machine to extract the trapped driver. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The deceased has been identified as Sujit Kumar, a resident of Sitamarhi.

Authorities took possession of the body and sent it to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) for post-mortem examination.

Around 50 passengers aboard both buses sustained injuries, with several suffering serious wounds. They were referred to SKMCH for further treatment, while others received care at nearby healthcare centers. Reports indicate that their conditions are stable.

Immediately after the crash, passengers called for help, creating a scene of chaos. Local villagers rushed to the site to assist in rescuing those trapped in the damaged buses.

According to reports, more than half a dozen passengers were critically injured. The accident caused significant traffic congestion on NH-22, leading to long queues of vehicles.

Police from the Aurai station arrived to manage the situation and arranged for the removal of the wrecked buses, allowing traffic to resume.

Aurai police station in-charge Sushil Kumar stated that the collision occurred between the ‘Girja Bus’ and the ‘Sanovar Bus.’ Eyewitnesses reported that both buses were traveling at high speeds at the time of the crash.

Sushil Kumar confirmed that the Girja bus driver was killed due to being trapped inside the vehicle, and several passengers were injured in the incident.

Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident, including a technical analysis of the speed of both buses and other contributing factors.
