New Delhi, May 21: Indira Gandhi International Airport has issued a public health advisory for travelers arriving from or transiting through Ebola-affected countries. Passengers are urged to report any symptoms of the disease to health officials present at the airport immediately.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, the airport shared the health advisory issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
This advisory specifically targets travelers from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan, which have been identified as high-risk countries based on updates from the World Health Organization (WHO).
According to the advisory, travelers exhibiting symptoms such as fever, vomiting, weakness, fatigue, diarrhea, headaches, unexplained bleeding, muscle pain, or sore throat should inform health officials or the health desk at the airport before immigration clearance.
Passengers who have had direct contact with the blood or bodily fluids of a suspected or confirmed Ebola patient are also advised to notify airport health officials immediately.
Furthermore, the advisory states that travelers who experience any symptoms within 21 days of arrival should seek medical advice and inform health officials about their recent travel history.
Delhi Airport has appealed to passengers to cooperate with health checks and public health measures to ensure their safety and that of others, as well as to comply with international health regulations.
This advisory comes amid rising global vigilance regarding Ebola outbreaks in parts of Africa.
Additionally, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has reported 131 suspected deaths and 513 suspected Ebola cases in the recent outbreak. DRC’s Health Minister Roger Kamba stated that these deaths were recorded in affected areas, although not all are necessarily linked to Ebola.
Notably, Jordan announced a temporary ban on travelers from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda due to growing concerns about Ebola.
