The official website of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University (DDU) at http://www.ddugu.ac.in has been hacked, with details of a Turkish company now appearing on the university portal. The cyber attack has disrupted the university’s operations, prompting the administration to consider shifting to a new server.

The website has been experiencing problems since the evening of November 27. According to Daily Kiran reports, this is the second such incident in recent months. A similar problem occurred last month, which the service provider managed to fix after three to four days. However, the issue has resurfaced within a month.

The DDU administration has been in contact with the service provider regarding the problem, but no solution has been found so far. The hack is also affecting search results, leading the university administration to prepare for changing the service provider.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Poonam Tandon confirmed that the server hack is impacting search results and causing other problems. She stated that the server is being shifted to address these issues.

Major Institutions Targeted by Hackers

Large institutions have consistently been targets of cyber hackers. In 2022, AIIMS Delhi’s server was also hacked. Additionally, cyber fraudsters launched a massive attack on ICMR’s servers. The cyber attack on AIIMS Delhi’s computer servers brought almost all servers to a halt, including the hospital’s e-hospital network operated by the National Informatics Centre (NIC). During the chaos, emergency, outpatient, inpatient, and all laboratory work had to be shifted from computers to manual operations.

Late Night Efforts Continue Without Success

The DDU administration continued efforts to restore the website until late Saturday night, but was unsuccessful. The university contacted the service provider regarding the issue. Service provider representatives stated that the website is not showing any details now, making it difficult to understand where and who hacked the website. Efforts are ongoing, with attempts being made to operate through an alternative website by Sunday.
