New Delhi, August 3: The counting of votes for the by-elections in Datiya, Madhya Pradesh; Bankipur, Bihar; and Manjalpur, Gujarat commenced early Monday morning. Results are expected to be announced later today.
All eyes are on the by-elections held on July 30, as they hold significant political implications for the major parties in the respective states.
In Datiya, Madhya Pradesh, voter turnout was recorded at 71.44% during the by-election held on July 30. The main contest is between Ashutosh Tiwari of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Ghanshyam Singh from the Congress party, with both parties confident about their chances of victory.
This by-election is also viewed as the first electoral challenge for Hemant Khandelwal, the newly appointed state president of the BJP, making the outcome politically significant for the ruling party’s organizational leadership in Madhya Pradesh.
In Bihar, the counting of votes for the Bankipur assembly by-election is taking place under strict security at Kala Bhawan in Patna. Election officials are overseeing the process, which will determine the fate of 25 candidates.
Authorities have implemented extensive security measures, including a three-tier security cordon around the electronic voting machines (EVMs) until the counting began.
Meanwhile, the counting for the Manjalpur assembly by-election in Gujarat is also ongoing, necessitated by the death of BJP legislator and former minister Yogesh Patel. The voter turnout in this constituency was recorded at 37.5% on July 30.
The main contest in Manjalpur is between BJP candidate Satish Govindbhai Patel and Congress leader Bhikhabhai Rabari.
As the counting progresses in all three constituencies, political parties are closely monitoring the trends, with final results expected to be announced later today.
