New Delhi, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : A significant legal development has emerged in New Delhi following the tragic collapse of a five-story building in the Satya Niketan area. A public interest litigation (PIL) has been submitted to the Delhi High Court, seeking immediate attention to the incident.
The bench, led by Chief Justice Devender Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia, has agreed to hear the case today. The court has assured that proceedings will commence promptly.
This unfortunate event has resulted in the loss of six lives. According to a statement from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), 11 injured individuals were admitted to the JPN Apex Trauma Center. Among them, five were brought in deceased, and one patient later succumbed to injuries. Three others are currently hospitalized and receiving treatment, while one individual with minor injuries has been discharged after observation.
Additionally, the Public Relations Officer at Safdarjung Hospital reported that another injured person was admitted on Monday morning and is in stable condition. To date, a total of two injured individuals have been treated at Safdarjung Hospital.
On Monday morning, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, accompanied by Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa and the local MLA, visited the site of the collapse. She confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against the building’s owner. Gupta emphasized that strict actions will be taken against any officials found negligent in their duties.
The Chief Minister noted that the building was quite old, and water accumulation in the basement had weakened its pillars, leading to the collapse. She also mentioned that the adjacent building has been completely evacuated and will be demolished as a precautionary measure.
