Controversy Erupts Over Compensation in Ahmedabad Plane Crash Aftermath

Ahmedabad, June 12: A year has passed since the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad, and new controversies surrounding compensation for victims and their families have emerged. Air India faces allegations of requiring some families of the crash victims to sign documents that prevent them from making any future legal claims in exchange for compensation.

Ayush Dubey, a lawyer representing the victims and their families, spoke to the media, stating, “All families are currently demanding access to the black box data. Air India has recently sent several families of those injured and deceased in the incident documents referred to as ‘receipt, discharge, and indemnity.’”

He further explained that the documents stipulate that once the families accept the compensation and sign, they forfeit their right to pursue legal action. The documents list all parties involved, including potential future claimants. If any reports emerge in the future that contradict Boeing or Air India, the families would relinquish all rights; this is the nature of the documents we have received.

According to Dubey, approximately 50% of the injured individuals have already signed these documents, thus losing their legal rights. Each family has been offered different compensation amounts. Some have received several lakh rupees, while others have been told that payments have been made. There have also been cases where families were offered between 4 crore and 15 crore rupees.
