Controversy Erupts Over CBSE Class 12 Math Paper with QR Code Leading to Rick Astleys Song

New Delhi, March 10: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is once again in the spotlight due to a controversy surrounding the Class 12 Mathematics exam. Students have reported that scanning the QR code printed on the first page of their exam paper led to the English song “Never Gonna Give You Up” by Rick Astley, released in 1987.

This incident has sparked a wave of memes on social media, alongside concerns about potential tampering. The CBSE conducted the Mathematics exam on Monday, and students quickly shared their experiences online. They expressed disbelief that a QR code, typically used for authentication and security verification, would redirect them to a music video instead of official instructions.

While it remains unclear if this issue affected all exam papers, videos and screenshots of the incident have gone viral. Many students have begun questioning the integrity of the exam process, with some even raising alarms about possible security breaches.

One user humorously criticized CBSE, stating, “They really put a QR code in the Class 12 Math paper just to ‘Rickroll’ us… I’m trying to solve integrals while the board plays ‘Never Gonna Give You Up.’ The examiners have truly trolled us in 2026.”

As the news spread, some individuals have taken to social media to seek confirmation from CBSE officials. A tweet tagged the education ministry and CBSE, asking, “Is it true that you ‘rickrolled’ Class 12 students in their Math paper? So many videos can’t be fake; can you clarify?”

As of now, CBSE has not issued any response regarding this incident.

Why Are QR Codes Used on Exam Papers?

QR codes are typically included on exam papers as a measure for authentication and to prevent leaks. Each QR code is unique to a specific paper set, helping verify its authenticity. However, the current situation has raised fears among students and parents about potential leaks, as the code redirects to a music video instead of official information. QR codes also assist in tracking, record-keeping, and preventing fraud.

Students continue to tag officials, demanding an investigation, as they believe the integrity of the exam has been compromised and action should be taken.
