Jabalpur, February 13: A tragic incident in Jabalpur district, Madhya Pradesh, has sparked political controversy following the demolition of a shop by local authorities. The death of a young trader has led opposition parties to demand adequate compensation for the victim’s family and a thorough investigation.

On Thursday, a team of revenue officials and police executed a demolition order at Mintu Agarwal’s (39) shop in the city’s Bargi area. During the operation, Agarwal collapsed and lost consciousness.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors reported that he had suffered a heart attack. Unfortunately, he passed away later that night, prompting family members and fellow shop owners to protest outside the police station.

Angry traders and local residents called for the filing of an FIR for involuntary manslaughter against the officials involved and demanded a compensation of 1 million rupees for the bereaved family. The protest ended late at night after officials assured them of their concerns being addressed.

State Congress President Jitu Patwari criticized the district administration’s actions, stating that taking away a family’s livelihood, dreams, and support in an instant is a sign of an insensitive government.

Patwari questioned whether the Jabalpur district administration ignored a stay order from the High Court regarding the shop. He demanded an explanation as to why the order was overlooked if it existed. He urged Chief Minister Mohan Yadav to take strict action against the responsible officials and ensure justice and fair compensation for the victim’s family.
