Gujarat Chief Minister Approves ₹20 Crore for Visavadar Bypass Road Project

Gandhinagar, September 10 (Daily Kiran) : Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced on Thursday the approval of ₹20 crore for the initial phase of the proposed bypass road around Visavadar in Junagadh district. This project aims to alleviate traffic congestion in the city.

According to the state government, the allocated funds will cover pre-construction activities, including land acquisition, utility relocations, and the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR).

The planned bypass will connect the Bagasra-Jetpur State Highway to the Visavadar-Satdhar-Sasan Gir State Highway, providing an alternative route for traffic passing through Visavadar.

This approval follows requests from local officials and residents who have highlighted the need for a bypass to address the ongoing traffic jams in the city.

The allocated funds will be directed to the Roads and Buildings Department for this first phase. Visavadar is situated on a crucial road network, with the main route connecting Amreli to Somnath running through the city.

Several state highways, including Bagasra-Jetpur, Dhari-Savarkundla, and Visavadar-Satdhar, as well as the Junagadh-Mendarada-Keshod highway, also pass through Visavadar. The city is surrounded by various pilgrimage and tourist sites, attracting numerous visitors. Notable locations include the Satdhar pilgrimage site, Sasan Gir Forest, the ancient Kankeshwari Temple, the Rampara Dham in Rupaal, the Nagbai Temple in Rampara, and the Sant Shri Rohidas Temple in Sarsai.

The government has taken into account the traffic from these routes and the movement of pilgrims and tourists visiting nearby religious and tourist sites when considering the bypass proposal. The ₹20 crore allocation will enable officials to initiate necessary preliminary activities before construction begins.

Visavadar is also part of a road network that provides access to the Gir region.

The official ‘Gir Lion’ website includes the Junagadh-Visavadar State Highway among the routes leading to the Gir Forest, emphasizing the connectivity of the city to one of Gujarat’s major wildlife destinations.

According to the Junagadh district administration, the Gir protected area spans 1,882.6 square kilometers, including 258.7 square kilometers of national park, 1,153.4 square kilometers of sanctuary, and a 470.5 square kilometer forest buffer zone.
