Chandigarh, September 10 (Daily Kiran) : Chandigarh, September 10 — Sukhbir Badal, president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), has accused Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of exploiting his position for personal gain. During a recent address in Khara, Badal referenced a disturbing incident in which a young man, Chamakour Singh, attempted suicide after being allegedly tortured at the Dhuri police station.
Badal promised that if the SAD returns to power, it will focus on comprehensive development in the region. He highlighted recent cases of harassment and suicides in Sheron and Tour Banjara villages, claiming that two individuals faced severe consequences for showing black flags to the Chief Minister and questioning Finance Minister Harpal Cheema about rampant drug sales. “This is the change the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has brought to Punjab’s politics,” he stated.
He criticized Mann for showcasing a ‘green pen’ as a tool for revolutionary public service, arguing that it has only served to silence dissent and facilitate the plundering of state resources. Badal pointed out that while these abuses were occurring, Mann was preoccupied with misleading public events and allegedly appeared intoxicated on stage.
Additionally, Badal condemned Mann for allegedly providing cover to criminals, including drug lords and rapists. He cited the example of a gangster, Gurpreet Singh Sekhon, who was welcomed into the AAP despite having 50 criminal cases pending against him, revealing the Chief Minister’s true stance on crime.
Looking ahead, Badal vowed that if elected, the SAD would enact stringent laws to combat gangsters and drug issues, enabling the confiscation of their assets and imposing a minimum 20-year prison sentence for offenders.
