New Delhi, August 6: In the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju criticized the opposition, particularly Congress, for its walkouts. He stated that despite Congress and some allied parties leaving the House or protesting outside, bills are being passed after thorough discussions in the Rajya Sabha.
Rijiju remarked, “The Rajya Sabha is functioning properly, and bills are being passed after detailed discussions. Even though Congress and a couple of its allies are walking out or creating a ruckus, bills are still being passed, and members are participating in debates. Many MPs have shared their opinions. The walkout is harming Congress itself, especially its newly elected MPs, as they are missing out on opportunities to speak.”
The minister also highlighted the presence of the Home Minister and Prime Minister in Parliament, stating, “The Home Minister and Prime Minister are present in Parliament from morning till evening. It is the opposition that is not allowing the House to function. They are protesting outside, which is inappropriate. The House is doing its work, bills are being passed, and meaningful discussions are taking place in the Rajya Sabha before these bills are approved.”
Rijiju expressed the government’s readiness for dialogue. He mentioned his conversation with Rahul Gandhi, saying, “I had a good discussion with Rahul Gandhi. We made requests on specific issues and discussed other matters as well. We want to work continuously with Congress and other opposition parties in a collaborative manner. Although we may be political opponents, we are not enemies. Therefore, we should work together for the country’s benefit. However, an image is being created outside that they do not want Parliament to function at all, but who is ultimately harmed by this?”
Criticizing the opposition’s behavior of shouting slogans, he noted that the country is progressing, yet the opposition repeats the same slogans daily. The Home Minister and Prime Minister are present in Parliament throughout the day, but opposition members are not allowing the House to function. Instead, they are protesting outside, which is not right. Despite Congress and some allies walking out, bills are being passed after thorough discussions, and many MPs are participating and sharing their views.
On issues concerning students and paper leaks, the minister defended the government’s actions. He stated, “The Prime Minister has made revolutionary decisions regarding students and has taken significant steps to address the problem of exam paper leaks. Yet, these individuals create drama on the same issue every morning and behave in a manner that disrespects Lord Ram. Such behavior and constant protests are unacceptable.”
