New Delhi, August 6: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that the Ukrainian military executed a significant operation on Thursday aimed at limiting Russia’s oil revenue. The operation targeted two oil refineries located at distant Russian sites.
Zelensky stated that Russia utilizes these earnings to finance its aggressive actions against Ukraine. He urged Russia to choose the path of peace.
In a post on the social media platform X, Zelensky wrote, “Our long-range sanctions have once again proven effective in limiting Russia’s oil revenue. This money is used to wage war and take the lives of Ukrainians.”
He detailed that Ukrainian defense forces struck enemy positions over 1,300 kilometers away from the front lines. The Bashneft-Novouil refinery in Bashkortostan was one of the targets, along with the Slavneft-Yanos refinery located approximately 700 kilometers from Ukraine’s border in the Yaroslavl region.
Zelensky also noted successes in response to Russia’s aggressive actions in the Black Sea, specifically targeting two military patrol boats and vessels from the so-called “shadow fleet.”
“I thank all the warriors in our defense forces who are continuously enhancing our long-range strike capabilities. This also increases the prospects for a diplomatic solution,” Zelensky remarked, emphasizing that Russia must choose the path of peace.
On the other hand, Russia is responding to these attacks in kind. It continues to launch ballistic missiles and drones against Ukraine. In light of these assaults, Zelensky is consistently seeking assistance from allied nations. He discussed this matter with Alexander Stubb on Wednesday.
In his post on X, Zelensky stated, “We talked about how Finland can assist us in defending against Russia’s ballistic missile attacks. We are well aware of how many missiles are available globally for air defense systems. Ukraine needs these daily as we face missile attacks from Russia. If our allied countries provide help now, many lives could be saved. Thank you, Alex, for your prompt response and willingness to assist us.”
Following his discussion with Stubb, the Ukrainian president mentioned that they also addressed diplomatic efforts. They discussed all possible steps that could compel Russia to move towards peace. “When Putin can no longer continue killing people, he will have to find a way out of this war. Adequate support for Ukraine and sustained pressure on Russia are the keys to achieving peace.”
