Istanbul, August 6: Egyptian captain Mohamed Salah has signed a two-year contract with Trabzonspor after leaving Liverpool. Salah spent an impressive nine years at Liverpool before deciding to join the Turkish Super League club on a free transfer.
This move comes after a mutual agreement to terminate his contract with Liverpool a year early, ending his tenure at Anfield following the 2025-26 season.
Salah’s departure marks the conclusion of one of the most successful chapters in Liverpool’s modern history. He joined the club from Italian side AS Roma in the summer of 2017 and quickly established himself as one of the greatest players in the club’s history, playing a crucial role in Liverpool’s domestic and European success.
During his time at Anfield, Salah helped Liverpool secure two Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, the FA Cup, two League Cups, and the FA Community Shield.
The forward scored 255 goals in 435 appearances for the Merseyside club, ranking third on Liverpool’s all-time top scorers list. He also won the Premier League Golden Boot four times.
Salah’s final season at Liverpool was challenging, as he struggled for regular playing time. Reports indicated that his relationship with then-head coach Arne Slot had soured, leading both parties to agree on an early contract termination.
Now, the 34-year-old player embarks on a new challenge with Trabzonspor, one of Turkey’s most successful clubs.
Trabzonspor has won the Turkish league championship seven times, with six titles coming during their dominant era between 1976 and 1984. The “Black Sea” club ended a 38-year wait for a league title by winning the Super League in 2022 and is one of six clubs to have claimed the top-tier Turkish championship.
This transfer is one of the biggest in the history of the Turkish Super League. Salah aims to challenge for domestic titles and make an impact in European competitions.
