New Delhi, June 16: BJP national spokesperson Shahzad Poonawala has sharply responded to comments made by Congress leaders regarding the registration of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He accused the opposition of targeting the RSS for political reasons and making unfounded allegations against the organization. Poonawala also reacted to recent statements by Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav regarding the Indi alliance, labeling the opposition parties as motivated by political opportunism.
In response to Congress leader’s remarks about the RSS registration, Poonawala stated that Congress leaders lack adequate knowledge of the law. He compared Priyanka Kharge to Rahul Gandhi, asserting that both make baseless allegations against the RSS to gain political mileage. He emphasized that if Congress genuinely believed the RSS was involved in illegal activities, they could have imposed a ban during their government from 2004 to 2014. He clarified that there is no constitutional or legal requirement for the RSS to be registered.
Poonawala claimed that various organizations affiliated with the RSS are legally registered and actively working in social sectors. He mentioned groups like the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Seva Bharati, Vidya Bharati, and the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, which comply with legal processes. He pointed out that the opposition does not raise issues regarding the registration of other organizations. Poonawala noted that Congress has been politically opposing the RSS for decades without any political gain. He also mentioned that several national leaders have praised the RSS’s work over time.
Regarding the Indi alliance and Akhilesh Yadav’s statements, Poonawala questioned the unity among opposition parties. He stated there is a lack of ideological clarity among them, and their alliance is based solely on political interests. Poonawala remarked that Akhilesh Yadav, Congress, and Asaduddin Owaisi’s parties engage in vote bank politics. They come together when politically convenient and turn against each other when they believe it is more beneficial to fight separately.
He accused the opposition of prioritizing vote bank politics over substantive issues. Public disagreements among the Indi alliance parties have surfaced multiple times, indicating that their coalition is based on circumstances rather than a permanent ideology. Poonawala further stated that the frequent changes in alliances among opposition parties demonstrate that their political agenda is driven by opportunism. He asserted that the public has recognized the reality of such coalitions and is prioritizing politics focused on development and good governance.
