Controversy Erupts Over Donald Trump Avenue Naming in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, June 18: The decision by the Telangana government to name a prominent road near the U.S. Consulate in Hyderabad as ‘Donald Trump Avenue’ has sparked significant political and public debate. Congress leader T.S. Singh Deo has expressed strong objections, labeling the move as fundamentally inappropriate.

Speaking to a news agency in Ambikapur, the former Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh and senior Congress leader stated that, in his view, it is not suitable to name public spaces after living individuals. He remarked, “I see no justification for naming a road after Trump. In principle, public infrastructure should not bear the names of living persons.”

Singh Deo acknowledged that if a state government makes such a decision, it may be based on specific reasons, such as economic contributions. However, he still questioned the relevance of such naming conventions.

It is noteworthy that the Telangana government announced last December that a road passing by the U.S. Consulate in Hyderabad would be named ‘Donald Trump Avenue.’ The formal inauguration of this road is expected to take place on June 23, led by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao.

Additionally, the state government has revealed plans for other significant naming initiatives. A new access road connecting the proposed Regional Ring Road (RRR) will be named in honor of the late industrialist Ratan Tata. Furthermore, in recognition of the contributions of the global tech giant Google and its services, a major route is set to be named ‘Google Street.’

The state government has indicated that this initiative is part of a broader strategy to establish Telangana as a hub of innovation and global recognition. The aim is to symbolically honor the contributions of internationally renowned personalities and companies.
