New Delhi, July 18: Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh stated on Saturday that the successful launch of Vikram-1 by Skyroot Aerospace is a proud moment for India. This achievement reflects the positive and far-reaching impact of the decision to open the country’s space sector to private companies.
In an exclusive conversation following the launch, Dr. Singh expressed that this is a moment of pride for every Indian, as it marks the first time a private company has successfully launched its rocket as planned.
He remarked, “This is undoubtedly a proud moment for all of us and the entire nation. For the first time, a private company has successfully launched its rocket according to its own plan.”
Dr. Singh attributed this success to the bold decision made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi five to six years ago to open the space sector to private enterprises.
Congratulating all parties involved in the mission, the minister noted that Skyroot Aerospace has made history by becoming the first private company in India to conduct an orbital launch from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.
He added, “Congratulations to Skyroot for successfully launching as India’s first private company from Sriharikota. Kudos to IN-SPACe for enabling this remarkable public-private partnership. I also commend ISRO for facilitating this collaboration. Most importantly, heartfelt thanks and congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making this possible.”
The minister emphasized that this rapid progress within just five years showcases the success of India’s space reforms.
He pointed out that India’s record of successful launches on the first attempt is significantly better than that of countries that initiated their space programs decades earlier.
He concluded, “The achievements made in just the last five years are nothing short of miraculous. Five years is not a long time in the context of the space sector. Compared to those countries that started much earlier, India’s record of success on the first attempt is far superior. Today’s achievement adds another chapter to that remarkable record.”
