Bhopal, March 30: The minimum support price (MSP) for wheat procurement in Madhya Pradesh will commence on April 10. This decision was made by a committee of cabinet ministers. The Congress party has raised concerns over the government’s third postponement of the wheat procurement date.
Preparations for the wheat procurement under the Rabi marketing year 2026-27 have been thoroughly completed. A high-level meeting of the cabinet ministers’ committee was held via video conferencing on Monday, where the state’s wheat procurement system was extensively reviewed.
Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Protection Minister Govind Singh Rajput announced that the cabinet committee has decided to start wheat procurement in the Indore, Ujjain, Narmadapuram, and Bhopal divisions on April 10, 2026. In the remaining divisions of the state, procurement will begin on April 15, 2026.
The government has instructed all relevant departments to ensure necessary arrangements are made in a timely manner. This includes the establishment of procurement centers, storage capacity, transportation arrangements, and strengthening the payment process. Minister Rajput noted that the meeting also focused on the global scenario, particularly the conditions arising from conflicts in the Middle East, which affect food supply and storage systems.
The committee directed officials to conduct the wheat procurement process smoothly, transparently, and in a timely manner to avoid any inconvenience to farmers. Emphasis was placed on ensuring that farmers receive fair prices for their produce promptly, without any delays in the payment process. Instructions were given to enhance the digital payment system and strengthen monitoring mechanisms.
Minister Rajput stated that timely and organized wheat procurement will not only benefit farmers but also strengthen food management in the state. Furthermore, this initiative will play a crucial role in ensuring the state’s food security amid changing global conditions.
Former Union Minister and ex-state Congress president Arun Yadav accused the state government of extending the wheat procurement date for the third time, stating that farmers’ months of hard work are left exposed to the elements while the government continues to delay. He criticized the insensitivity of the farmer-unfriendly government, noting that the date was initially set for March 16, then moved to April 1, and now to April 10.
