Bhopal, February 17: In a strong show of dissent, Congress legislators staged a protest in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly complex, holding bottles filled with contaminated water. This demonstration was in response to the tragic deaths caused by drinking polluted water in Indore. The party is demanding the resignation of the Urban Administration Minister.

On the second day of the state assembly’s budget session, the opposition leader, Umang Singhar, led the Congress party in a symbolic protest near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. They carried bottles of dirty water and placards with slogans, highlighting the issue of contaminated water deaths in the Bhagirathpura area of Indore.

During the protest, legislators chanted slogans against the government, calling for justice for the affected families. Singhar expressed deep concern over the deaths, stating that it is both tragic and alarming. He accused the government of evading its responsibilities regarding this serious issue. He insisted that Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya should resign on moral grounds, and that strict action should be taken against the guilty officials. Furthermore, he urged the government to take concrete and effective steps to ensure clean drinking water for the citizens of the state.

Singhar highlighted that the supply of contaminated and polluted water across the state is a grave concern. He pointed out the discrepancy between the Governor’s speech, which claimed access to clean water, and the harsh reality on the ground. He proposed that the government clarify whether there will be a serious discussion on this matter, emphasizing that every citizen deserves access to clean drinking water, as not everyone can afford to buy expensive water. Clean water is a fundamental right of the people.

He criticized the government for avoiding discussions in the assembly on such a critical issue, which he believes contradicts democratic values. The Congress party has made it clear that it will continue its struggle until justice is served to the victims and action is taken against those responsible.

Former Agriculture Minister and Congress leader Sachin Yadav also remarked on the situation, noting that despite the numerous deaths due to contaminated water in Indore, the Urban Administration Minister has yet to resign.
