New Delhi, March 29: Senior Congress leader Rashid Alvi has asserted that the party fulfills its promises made before elections once it comes to power. This statement comes in light of the upcoming West Bengal assembly elections, where Congress has released a list of candidates for 284 out of 294 seats. The party has fielded several senior leaders in the contest.
In an interview, Rashid Alvi emphasized that the promises made by the Congress during elections are genuine. He stated, “If our government is formed by the public, we prioritize fulfilling our electoral commitments, which the public trusts when they choose Congress.”
Alvi criticized the BJP, claiming that it aims to defeat Mamata Banerjee and the opposition at any cost, in collaboration with the Election Commission. He described the Election Commission as a significant tool that the BJP frequently utilizes.
He pointed out that the transfers of police officials in the state indicate that these actions are not aimed at ensuring fair elections. “The BJP is determined to come to power by any means, working alongside the Election Commission,” he added.
Notably, Congress has nominated former MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury to contest from the Baharampur assembly seat. The party has also fielded Pradeep Prasad from the Bhawanipur seat, where he will face off against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari.
The Congress party is contesting the elections independently and claims that it will form the next government.
West Bengal has a total of 294 assembly seats, with voting taking place in two phases on April 23 and April 29. The counting of votes is scheduled for May 4.
