Lucknow, June 30: Amid ongoing controversies regarding alleged mismanagement of donations at the Ayodhya Ram Temple, a delegation of nine Congress leaders, led by Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai, will visit Ayodhya on Tuesday. The delegation plans to pay their respects and perform rituals at the temple. This information was shared in a letter issued by Ajay Rai.
The visit comes at a time when political rhetoric surrounding the temple’s donation box and related issues is intensifying. It is believed that Congress is strategizing to corner the BJP and the state government on this matter.
The delegation includes Amethi MP Kishori Lal Sharma, Barabanki MP Tanuj Punia, Sitapur MP Rakesh Rathore, MP Ujjwal Raman Singh, Farenda MLA Virendra Chaudhary, former MP A.P. Gautam, former MLA Meeta Gautam, and former MLC Deepak Singh.
This visit is considered politically significant for Congress. With investigations and actions underway regarding the temple’s donation issues, the opposition is raising questions. Previously, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav had also highlighted this issue. Now, Congress is targeting the BJP on the same front.
Ajay Rai has previously accused the BJP during his visits to Ayodhya. Following the initiation of an SIT investigation and the arrest of eight individuals, the Congress leaders’ visit may further heat up the political climate in the state.
Political analysts believe that with upcoming assembly elections in mind, Congress is increasing its activity on such issues. The party aims to clarify its stance on matters related to the Ram Temple while attempting to corner the BJP.
In preparation for the elections in Uttar Pradesh, Congress has also made changes within its organization. Recently, the party appointed Rajendra Pal Gautam as the new state in-charge, replacing Avinash Pandey. Rajendra Pal Gautam hails from the Dalit community, and this appointment is seen as an effort to strengthen the party’s historical social equations.
