Congress Leaders Demand Review of Anti-Defection Law Following Rajya Sabha Election Results

New Delhi, March 17: Following the results of the Bihar Rajya Sabha elections, Congress leaders have criticized the BJP, accusing them of poaching their party members to form a government. This tactic, they claim, is not new, as similar actions were observed in Maharashtra previously.

Congress MP Amar Singh spoke to a news agency about the election results, stating, “Allegations of horse-trading have been directed at the BJP. They are skilled in this practice. They employed similar tactics to destabilize the government in Maharashtra. For them, this is not a new strategy. The BJP’s model is to seize power through any means necessary when they cannot win elections. They are causing significant harm to democracy, and we oppose this.”

Congress MP Manish Tewari expressed his concerns to reporters, saying, “It is unfortunate that political ethics have reached such a low point. People no longer respect the political party that brought them to power. It is time to seriously reconsider the anti-defection law, as allegations of horse-trading and the repeated toppling of governments through external means have escalated from minor incidents to large-scale operations.”

Congress MP Ujjwal Raman Singh commented on the election results, stating, “These are events that shame democracy. The public should witness how elections are being conducted in the temple of democracy, with deals being made. The Election Commission must take note of this and take action against those legislators who acted against party lines, leading to the cancellation of their memberships.”

He added that in Hinduism, it is said that one must atone for their sins, and those who have won should face their moral failures. “I urge them to abandon their ethics; they no longer possess moral strength,” he said.

Congress MP Varun Chaudhary also weighed in on the Rajya Sabha election results, questioning, “If there was no numerical strength, why was a third candidate fielded? They believe in stealing votes. The BJP does not trust democracy. The tactics employed are utterly condemnable.”

He urged the party’s top leadership to disclose the names of the legislators involved, stating that strict action should be taken against those who engaged in cross-voting.
