Mumbai, February 22: Congress leader Charan Singh Sapra recently addressed the ongoing tensions surrounding Rahul Gandhi’s appearance in Bhivandi Court. Following protests where BJP workers displayed black flags, Sapra responded firmly, stating that such actions do not deter them. He emphasized that Gandhi is raising the voice of the people and the fight to uphold the Constitution continues.
At the AI Summit, Sapra commented on the Youth Congress’s demonstration and the BJP’s demand for an apology from Gandhi. He dismissed the BJP’s outrage as mere theatrics, questioning their silence when Gandhi received open threats to his life. “This is all a façade,” he asserted, accusing BJP members of tarnishing the country’s image.
Sapra defended the Youth Congress’s actions, stating that their protest was justified. He pointed out that the nation was not embarrassed when a ceasefire was negotiated under pressure from former U.S. President Donald Trump. He criticized the dependency on the U.S. for oil, questioning why India must seek permission from America.
He reiterated that the BJP is damaging India’s reputation. The Youth Congress’s protest at the AI Summit was a democratic expression, reminiscent of historical protests, including those by Bhagat Singh in the British Parliament. “When they protest, it’s a miracle; when we do, we’re criminals,” Sapra remarked, highlighting the peaceful nature of their demonstration without any vandalism.
Sapra also invoked Mahatma Gandhi, stating he symbolizes the nation’s ideals. The country respects his legacy and the historic freedom movement he led. He acknowledged that while a U.S. court reprimanded Trump, the former president remains unchanged, still finalizing trade deals with India.
The Congress leader expressed concern over the BJP’s divisive tactics over the past 11 years, citing examples like the Kashmir Files and Kerala film controversies, which he believes create a polarized atmosphere that benefits the BJP.
