Bhopal, July 24: The Congress party has launched a strong attack on the Madhya Pradesh government following the release of a report by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG). Congress state president Jitu Patwari has called for the government to issue a white paper on the CAG report.
In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Patwari referenced the CAG report, which highlights alarming statistics. It states that Madhya Pradesh has the highest maternal mortality rate and infant mortality rate in the country. Thousands of villages lack anganwadi centers, millions of children and pregnant women are deprived of nutrition, and more than half of the responsible positions remain vacant. Furthermore, the report indicates that children’s meals depend on unregistered groups, and accountability is missing despite the expenditure of crores of rupees.
Patwari accused the government of administrative failure, stating that it is a betrayal of the trust of mothers who seek safe deliveries in government hospitals. He emphasized that it is an insult to the rights of newborns, who are forced to fight for survival due to government negligence.
He further pointed out that while the state government claims to be at the forefront of development, the CAG report reveals that Madhya Pradesh lags behind in protecting mothers and children. This contradiction, he argues, exposes the true priorities of the government.
Patwari highlighted that under the current administration, crores of rupees have been spent, yet thousands of villages remain without anganwadi services. Plans were made, but kitchens were not built. Although a nutrition budget was allocated, millions of children’s plates remain empty. Records were created, but the reasons for children not receiving food were not documented.
The Congress leader has demanded that Chief Minister Mohan Yadav release a white paper on the entire CAG report to inform the public of the truth. He has called for timely action against officials whose negligence has led to this situation, immediate appointments to all vacant positions, and the provision of essential facilities to every anganwadi.
Additionally, he stated that over 2.5 million beneficiaries have not received nutrition, and accountability must be established, with criminal action taken against those responsible. A district-wise action plan to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates should be made public, along with monthly progress updates.
