Raipur, July 24: Chhattisgarh Congress President Deepak Baij has been staging a protest at the Khamhardih police station for the past 14 hours. This demonstration is in response to an FIR filed against party workers.
Baij spoke to the media on Friday morning, stating, “Our protest began around 6 to 6:15 PM on Thursday and has continued into the next day. We have been protesting for nearly 14 hours. There were several rounds of discussions last night, but no satisfactory resolution was reached. This is why we are continuing our peaceful protest at the police station.”
He mentioned that another round of talks with the administration is scheduled for around 11 AM. “We definitely want a resolution and hope to avoid any confrontational situation. We are fully prepared for discussions,” he added. Baij expressed his disagreement with the actions taken against the party workers.
He stated, “There are still open paths to move forward. There is a strong possibility of reaching a resolution. No options are closed. Our demands remain the same, and we stand firm on them. This is why no resolution has been achieved yet. Another round of talks will happen soon, and we are fully ready to participate. Dialogue is the only way to find a solution, not confrontation. However, a fair and constructive environment is essential for meaningful discussions.”
It is noteworthy that clashes occurred between Congress supporters and BJP protesters in Raipur, leading to the filing of FIRs against several Congress leaders and workers.
Additionally, Baij responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s video message directed at students. He remarked, “The Prime Minister had to come out late at night to tweet and record a video on his mobile. This reflects the seriousness of the situation. However, in what he said, he did not address the main demands of the students or the ongoing concerns raised by our leader Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party.”
The Congress state president further noted, “While the Prime Minister mentioned creating a fast-track mechanism, no accountability has been established, no actions have been taken, and the government has not clarified who is responsible for this.”
